The Fry Chapter 14 Story
Fry Chapter 14 was founded in 1956 in the old township of Fry, Arizona, and has provided more than 70 years of dedicated service to the veterans of Cochise County. The chapter has long been a cornerstone of veteran support in Sierra Vista, with roots intertwined in the region’s deep military history. Since the 1870s, soldiers stationed at Fort Huachuca—Cavalry units, Buffalo Soldiers, and later Intelligence and Signal Corps personnel—helped shape the community’s identity. Over generations, veterans from World War I through Afghanistan made Sierra Vista their home, creating a strong culture of service that naturally led to organizations committed to supporting those who served. DAV Chapter 14 emerged as one of the most active groups, partnering with fellow veteran organizations, strengthening outreach, and continually developing new ways to serve veterans across Cochise County.

Today, Chapter 14 supports the third‑largest population of veterans per capita in the United States. The chapter continues to embody DAV’s national mission of keeping our promise to America’s veterans. As one of Arizona’s official DAV chapters, it provides true grassroots, boots‑on‑the‑ground support—helping veterans and their families access earned benefits, offering transportation to medical appointments, and maintaining a strong presence at community events and memorial ceremonies. Chapter 14 also participates in statewide DAV initiatives, including annual awards, service officer training, and department‑wide outreach programs, ensuring Sierra Vista’s veterans remain connected to the full network of support available throughout Arizona.
